History

In 1969 a group of local golfers, encouraged by local Pro John Aguillon and led by Roman Chavana and Romeo Diaz, started having Sundowners on Friday afternoons at the Ebony Hills Municipal Golf Course.

We soon realized the potential and began to think of a more formal organization. The Edinburg Golf Association was born later in 1969 and was an immediate success – quickly growing to more than 150 members!

The EGA continued as a very active and successful club for some 15 to 20 years but the Valley’s golf landscape began to change dramatically - many new golf courses were built – and the membership began to dwindle. It became increasingly difficult to keep the EGA going.

During the late 90s Roy Almendarez and Lencho Garza worked tirelessly to sustain the organization and we knew something needed to be done.

Leo Cadena, who had been a PAGA member in both Corpus Christi and Mercedes, suggested we look into becoming a PAGA chapter. We did and at the 2002 Winter Meeting in San Angelo, Texas Edinburg was accepted into the National Pan American Golf Association and the rest is history!
